Why are cockroaches such a big problem?
An infestation of cockroaches in a professional kitchen or food outlet will seriously damage your business reputation and lead to a forced closure from the local Environmental Health Department.

On top of that you will be summoned to Court and dealt a hefty fine; all this can be prevented with regular monitoring by a professional pest control company.
Where do cockroaches come from?
Cockroaches are adapted to live off us as a form of parasite and they're easily bought into a property through second hand electrical equipment and goods purchased in bulk.

The cockroach lays her egg's in a tough fibrous egg case called an ootheca, this has a sticky surface and can be attached just about anywhere, depending on the species of cockroach there can be between twelve and twenty plus individual egg's in the ootheca.

This is enough to start a brand new infestation which will rapidly grow beyond normal hygiene controls, as cockroaches like the dark by the time that you notice them they would be breeding in large numbers.

Maidenhead Pest Control - professional cockroach control with regular monitoring.

Protect your business from cockroaches

Cockroaches are becoming a much wider pest issue, with increasing levels of chemical resistance these insects are becoming more successful and much harder to eradicate. Landlords, hospitals, restaurants and high-rise developments are all seeing a rise in callouts to deal with cockroach infestations.

To protect yourself from a cockroach infestation there are four key actions –

Hygiene
Keep the premises as clean as possible, have a routine for deep cleaning getting into those hard-to-reach areas to remove the build up of food and grease that cockroaches thrive on.

Storage
Keep foodstuffs in sealed containers and ensure that storage rooms are also included in deep cleaning routines; this is especially important when the store is external to the building as these areas are often overlooked.

Maintenance
Cockroaches love to hide in cracks and crevices and that broken tile, or the torn lino flooring will all give these insects hiding places. They also trap food debris, so this helps out with the hygiene standards.

Inspection
Carryout regular inspections of the property, don’t take peoples word for fact and if you purchase an second hand kitchen equipment ensure that you carefully check inside and out looking for signs of a previous cockroach infestation.

There are four species of cockroach in the UK: the Oriental cockroach, the German cockroach and the American cockroach, the Oriental cockroach is the darkest in colour of the lot being between 20 and 30mm in length. The American cockroach has two brown bands on its body and is around the same size with the German cockroach being the smallest at 12 to 15mm in size. A new species just arrived into the UK is the Garden cockroach and as it name suggests these live outdoors and are not seen as a pest yet, they have come from southern Europe and thought to be in the south and east of England only.
